Blessed, Blind & Broken

Hey Protected babes,

This post is going to be short. The other day while at work I experienced some behaviors that I wasn't expecting to experience. For those of you that know I work in the mental health field as a mental health counselor. One of my clients was starting to decompensate and was not at his baseline. Decompensation is a clinical term used to describe a mentally ill individual's state of mental health when he or she was previously managing the illness well but suffered a downturn at a certain stage. That stage is considered a decompensation or decline in overall condition. He became extremely aggressive and picked up the computer screen to throw, a chair and any other object he can get his hands on. In that moment I did not know what to do or how to get him to stop. I felt blind due to me not noticing how much he was off of his base line. After my colleague and I were able to get him from the medical suite and EMS came to take him to get the psychiatric treatment that he needed I started to feel broken. Broken in the sense from past trauma that I have experienced and thought I would never experience another man become violent towards me. It took me years to heal from being in an abusive relationship with a man and in that moment all of the memories started to surface. I took a much needed mental health day to pour into myself and to sit with the emotions that surfaced. It was a difficult experience but, I am blessed to have learned different techniques to utilize when I do find myself being triggered.

This post is to give insight on the importance of maintaining good mental health. We all go through things mentally, but never forget that you have to deal with them alone. My client although he have support was going through mental battles alone is how he got to his current state. Please make your mental health a priority. Check on your friends and loved ones. You never know what a person is experiencing mentally. Sometimes all it can take is someone reaching out to check on those they love that can make all the difference. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. Good mental health promotes better relationships with the people in our lives. Good mental health enables us to work more productively and reach our full potential. Good mental health enables us to make meaningful contributions to our family, to our community and to society. Being mentally healthy extends your life by allowing you to experience more joy and happiness. Mental health also improves our ability to think clearly and boosts our self-esteem. We may also connect spiritually with ourselves and serve as role models for others.

Here are a few scriptures I've been reading to help me get through this process. I hope these will help you as well.

Psalm 91:4. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.

Isaiah 41:10 ... Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous ...

Isaiah 43:1-2 Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze."
